Should the velocity control PID loop over-ride the Default Accel, or, should the Default Accel always apply, even if the PID loop needs more than that much acceleration? Thanks to basicmicro's excellent phone support this issue was tracked down to a firmware problem. I updated firmware and everything started working!

I'm using a quadrature encoder https://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/cui-devices/AMT132Q-V/102-6645-ND/10269186 that has differential signals A+, A-, B+, B-.
