Motor Encoder Reading Issue

Post by reedjp » Thu Nov 07, 2019 2:02 pm

Hi all,

I am currently using an 84 RPM HD Premium Planetary Gear Motor with Encoder from ServoCity and a RoboClaw 2x45A ST with a 12V battery. I did the basic wiring for the RoboClaw and tried to follow the auto tuning tutorial, but the Basicmicro Motion Studio app is not reading the encoder values correctly. Please see the pictures below for settings and wiring setup. Also, I made a video showing exactly what I'm seeing when I increase the speed of the motor. I am having this problem with two different motors.

Am I doing something wrong here? Please and thank you for anyone's help!

1. If you have a scope, check the encoder signal lines. They should be clean square waves when running the motor at a constant velocity. If you dont have a scope you can manually check the encoder signal states with a multimeter. Just move the motor a little till you see 0v and then 5v

2. Assuming that works, uncheck the swap encoder channels check box and retest.

3. Test the second encoder channel.

Let me know the results of the above tests.
