RoboClaw and motor ratings

Post by historicode97 »

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if there is any risks to use a RoboClaw that can handle way more current than my motors' stall current.
I have two BDC motors with a stall current of 5.5 amps (11 amps if they both stall) and a RoboClaw 2x15A. Should I get a 2x7A or is it safe to use a 2x15A with such small motors ?

Thanks a lot !

We recommend not using motors with stall current more than 5 times the peak current rating of the Motor controller. So 11amps(assuming you are putting both on a single motor channel) is well below 5 times the peak current rating of the 2x7a or any of our other controllers.
