Encoder power draw

Post by Denver »

The encoder on the motor I'm using has very limited information. Would anyone be able to take a guess what approximate power draw an encoder would pull ? I,m trying to work out if it is feasible to run the logic side with one encoder off a battery for a few hours. I want to do this because I will be using a power supply and don't want to loose position if I have a power drop. I just need to work out what size battery will work.
Thanks

I recommend you power the enoder with 5v and use a mutlimeter in current mode to test the draw. My experice says between 10ma and 100ma but that is a very broad range.
