Timeout on failure to reach position

I am facing difficulty in understanding how closed loop position control will work if I command some position to motor controller(Roboclaw 2x7A is model which I am using) and it fails to reach that position.Is there any timeout for that on controller or Do I need to put some timeout on my application side which is controlling motor controller?

There is no timeout option currently. The controller will continue to try to reach the specified position until a new command overrides it.
