Can MCP2206 Dual 200A be switched from velocity to position mode?
I have a machine that needs to run using velocity or torque mode for most of the time and then SEAMLESSLY switch to position mode. It's ok if the machine is stationary during this switch over. I'm hoping that I can make use of the programmable I/O s to tell the device to do this. Is it possible? Thanks!

Yes you should be able to do this. The process would be:
1. Stop the motor
2. Set/Reset or read the current encoder position
3. Set the Position PID settings.
4. Send Position command with the position set to the current encoder position
You could write a fairly simple MCL script to do this based on an input on one of the programmable I/Os
