BEC 5 volt power

Post by SouthernAtHeart »

I have made a custom PCB that mounts on top of the Roboclaw 2x15. It has an Atmega328 (Arduino chip) on it, and also an SD card BOB, and headers for encoders, and other things. The total power needed on my board is probably only 500 mA. I see the 2x15 can supply 3 A. So I assume it is ok to draw half an amp or so from the 5 volt pins on the roboclaw header? My custom board has a mating header that fits down over S1-S4, the encoder pins, etc. So is it alright to connect the 4 positive pins together (the center pins) on S1 thru S4, and use that as my 5 volt power source for my board?

Thanks.

Yes. Those pins(the 5v pins) are already connected together through a large trace in the PCB as well.

That'll be great. I won't have to add a 5 volt regulator to my board then.
Cheers,
