M1 Spins During Firmware Update

Post by skcolb »

FYI, I noticed when updating my firmware to the latest version (on 2017-10-27) that M1 briefly spun while updating firmware over USB. It was just ~1-2 seconds, but was somewhat surprising. Happened on each of the 2x RoboClaw 2x7A (or maybe they were 2x5A) I updated. It wasn't a big deal on the setup I was running, but I imagine that it might be on some applications.

I've never seen motors spin like that when updating firmware but I could see the case if the control mode was set for RC or Analog mode and glitched the inputs just as the board went into bootloader mode. This could leave the mosfet drivers in an active state. So for perfect safety when updating firmware you should disconnect the motors while updating.
