Connecting to the green terminal seemed to work ok. I just used the ground and 5v rail from the BEC to run the encoder. I will have to verify but I think that the encoders might be labelled the wrong way around, ie, M1's encoder is labeled as M2's encoder.

Hi, Unfortunately the user manual currently linked on the ST 45A product page does not include information on the ST 45A. I am upgrading a robot that was using a V3 5A controller.
